Anthony
Daniels, Associate Athletics Director for Diversity and Community
Relations at the University of Denver was hired in August 2006 to
develop diversity awareness and social-justice education initiatives
for the Pioneer athletics program. Daniels joined DU after serving
the previous year as an Assistant Athletic Director at KU where he
managed the department's special events as well as the multicultural
and diversity training for Jayhawk athletics. He also served two years
at Colorado State as an Assistant Athletic Director for Black Student
Services and four years at KU in the Multicultural Affairs Office.
Daniels
develops, promotes and delivers diversity awareness and social-justice
educational initiatives to DU students, coaches, staff and administrators
related to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, harassment,
religion and other critical dimensions of diversity. Daniels promotes
a positive, welcoming and empowering climate for diversity with the
division of athletics and recreation at DU. In addition, Daniels manages
programs and initiatives that encourage and support African-American,
Latino, Asian, and American Indian student-athletes' contributions
to athletics, academic and multicultural excellence at DU.
Daniels
started his collegiate athletics career at Southern Illinois where
he was the Activity Director for the National Youth Sports Program
from 1991-93. He worked at Texas State University from 1993-2001 serving
as an Associate Director of the LBJ Student Center, Intramural Sports
Program Director, Informal Recreation Program Director and Recreation
Director for Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Y.O.U.).
Daniels
earned his bachelor’s of science degree in recreation administration
from Texas State in 1990 and his master of science degree in recreation
administration and tourism from Southern Illinois in 1993. He was
a three-year letter winner as a track and field athlete at Texas State.
