Association
with a group of pioneering colleges and universities concerned about
assuring the education of student-athletes and helping young people
which have:
Collectively created the nation's largest program for helping student-athletes
continue their education after their eligibility has expired in an
NCAA approved program.
Helped academically qualified former student-athletes from member
schools start or continue in a Degree Completion Program at an NCAS
school where they now reside.
Collectively created the nations largest and most highly acclaimed
outreach and community service program using student-athletes as positive
role models.
Initiated the celebration of National STUDENT-Athlete Day with model
programs developed by the NCAS. National STUDENT-Athlete Day is currently
co-sponsored with Northeastern University's Center for the Study of
Sport in Society and the NCAA.
Participated in the NCAS' educational programs for returning professional
athletes which are officially sanctioned by the NBA, NBPA, NFL and
NFLPA.
Professional Development:
All NCAS members are invited to participate in the Annual Conference
held in the winter. This conference allows NCAS members to come together
to discuss pertinent issues facing today's college student-athletes
and athletic departments. Panel discussions and breakout sessions
take place throughout the three day conference as well as updates
on program development and new programs. There is also an opportunity
to meet with NCAS Executive Committee Members and make contacts with
member institutions from across the country.
NCAS members are also invited to bi-annual regional conferences for
member schools. These meetings are program oriented and will now include
the TEAMWORK Leadership Initiative and MVP Institutes referred to
above. Again, these programs will consist of two-day train-the-trainers
programs which will allow member institutions to send representatives
to be trained. In turn, those representatives will return to campus
to train student-athletes. There are no national conference, regional
conference or training session registration fees, for one person,
if a members dues are paid for that fiscal year.
