Giant Steps Awards:
Nominations due by Friday, February 19th
Giant Steps Awards recognize individual student-athletes, professional athletes, athletics administrators, civic leaders, coaches, parents, organizations and other individuals who exemplify the ideals of balancing academics, athletics, life pursuits and giving back to the community through the spirit of athletics. You may nominate any person or organization whom you feel has contributed to sport as it relates to our society, including nationally-renowned figures or local heroes.

Courageous Student-Athlete
Nominees should have overcome some type of obstacle or challenge in their lives without hindering their achievement in athletics and academics, their pursuit of life goals, as well as commitment to the community. In addition, they should have used their life experience as a way to encourage those in the community (i.e. youth) to work hard, accept challenges, and use their experiences as a way to make themselves stronger. Winners will be honored at the NCAS Annual Giant Steps Awards Ceremony and Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Orlando.
Civic Leader
Nominees can be elected officials, student-athletes, professional athletes, team owners, league officials, etc., who are committed to making positive changes by using sports as a vehicle for social change in society. Examples include monetary donations, outreach and community service, proven commitment to the betterment of student and professional athletes, etc. Nominees may also use their stature as an athlete or sports as a whole to make positive social changes.
Athletics Administrator
Nominees must have proven commitment to the academic, athletic and personal development of student-athletes, and may be employed at a college or university as director of athletics, associate or assistant athletic director, academic advisor or life skills coordinator.
Coach
Nominees will have shown a commitment to the personal and professional development of their teams, ensuring that their student-athletes graduate and become productive members of society.
Community or Academic Organization
Nominees are committed to providing services to the community via sport and athletes. Nominees can be non-profit, educational institutions or corporations.
Parent, Teacher or School
Nominees can include parents, teachers, schools and other individuals who make it possible for student-athletes to succeed academically, athletically and professionally. Support for student-athletes in all realms of their life is crucial to their success and these individuals should be key contributors to that success.
